Opening, heart and dry-down: follow the scent

Use the stages as a scent journey, not a fixed timetable.

Perfume Nomad editorial · Reviewed 2026-10-09

Three views of one fragrance

The opening is your first impression. The heart describes the developing character; the base describes the lingering trail. They overlap rather than switching at an exact minute. Jo Malone’s introduction is a useful guide to this structure.

Choose the stage that matters to you

Love a bright opening? Add a note to Top. Prefer a comforting finish? Try Base. In our finder, the same note can be selected for any stage, but a result is confirmed only when its exact perfume edition has reviewed stage evidence.

Broaden without guessing

If an exact-stage search is empty, move the note to Any stage. This uses the listed notes without inventing a pyramid. A missing stage in our data does not prove that the fragrance lacks that note.
